'Team Torbellino are five people all sharing the same passion and drive to complete and be competitive in what is now known worldwide as a gruelling and very 'British' endurance race'
We decided to do the race in 2007, preparation commenced in earnest in 2008 and our first race was in 2009. All costs of competing in the race are covered by the individual team members. As the race organisers encourage raising money for great causes, finding a great cause that tied in with the challenge of the race proved an easy one. 'The James Myatt Trust' had been set up in memory of team member Tim Myatt's father in 1984 and its mission is to send young people, from varied backgrounds, offshore venture sailing.
The Welcombe Hills School
2009/10 saw Team Torbellino using funds raised for 'The James Myatt Trust' with sixth formers from a special needs school in Stratford Upon Avon. Each of the sixth formers is preparing to leave the school and to begin their adult life. Sailing will help to provide them with valuable teamworking skills and self-confidence at a crucial time in their lives. The feedback from the trips so far, have been both inspirational and moving, with some students signing up for other sailing challenges on the back of our trips. Take a look here and here for some feedback.

"The team are currently taking a well earned rest from all things running, sailing and rowing. The race went well. Sixth overall and a great experience again. We had a fantastic night at our 'Blue Hawaii' party and thanks to everyone for all the support. We raised £1500 from the event which will be added to the balance of our Just Giving Site which will go directly to the James Myatt Trust.
Following the successful trips on the Solent. We also enjoyed a pleasant afternoon of Tea, Sandwiches, Cakes, Awards and Laughter which had been organised by the staff and pupils of the Welcombe Hills School reviewing their trips on the London Sailing Project Boats. They had also raised £1500 for us undertaking a sponsored walk. Incredible.
Some pictures are in our photo gallery. We will put some more info on 2010 race and feedback from 'The Welcombe Hills School'up very soon....
